On June 3 my new book, "Deadly Dose" will be coming to a bookstore near you.  It tells the behind-the-scenes story of a local murder case I covered in Raleigh from 2000 to 2005. Ann Miller, a scientist at a major pharmaceutical company, ultimately pleaded guilty to killing her husband, Eric Miller, a pediatric AIDS researcher at UNC Hospitals .  Although I covered the case, this is not my story.  It is the story as told through the eyes of retired Raleigh Police Department homicide investigator Chris Morgan.

Anyone who knows Morgan, or knows him as "the guy on T.V. in the big white hat," knows he is a character.  When I first started writing the book (at Morgan's request) I knew right away the story would revolve around him and his recollection of the events that transpired in the five year investigation.  His genuine mix of southern gentility, old-school-cop, and armchair scholar make for a riveting tale from beginning to end that could only be told by him.

I call the book a "labor of love" because I had no idea how much research, editing and lawyering went into writing a true crime book, almost three years from beginning to end.  But I think readers, especially local readers who followed the story in the news, will be interested in the never before made public details of the case which captivated the Triangle.

On Monday June 2, you can see me on WRAL's morning news at 8:45 a.m. and on the noon news at 12:45 p.m.  Also check out WRAL.com for the online versions of these interviews and my BLOG called "Dispatches from a Reporter's Notebook."

Tuesday, June 3, I will be on Mix 101.5 at 8:15 a.m., so tune in on your way to work.

This story was such a shock to me because I attended Purdue with both Eric and Ann!! He was the roommate of the guy I dated and she lived 2 rooms down from me in the dorm our Freshman year!! Eric was the sweetest and funnest guy to be around. Sensitive and thoughtful and just terrific. I am still horrified that she could turn out to be such a vicious person and take away such a bright light of a spirit like Eric!!I hope she never is allowed to get out and never is around her daughter again. She is obviously a sick and heartless thing and deserves to rot in a cell. What a waste of air!!

I just got an e-mail from my old friends at Purdue about your book. Thank you so much for recognizing Detective Morgan. I am a friend of LeeAnn's from Purdue and had met Eric many times at School. Such a horrible action. I am so thankful for the diligence of the Raleigh community to find justice for the Miller Family. I can't wait to buy your book!
