My youngest daughter had her school picture today.  I tried this morning to no avail to get her to wear a dress.  Frankly, I don't care.  We always buy the smallest package of photographs because my sister-in-law is a photographer and she takes excellent pictures of the girls.  I wanted her to wear a dress only because I knew the other girls would be dressed up and I didn't want her to get upset.  As I pleaded with her to wear a dress my daughter told me:  "Mommy, the teacher just told us to bring our smile, that's all we need."  We put on jeans and a cute shirt.

We left the house and picked up my daughter's classmate, our carpool buddy, on the way to school.  She hopped into the car wearing a colorful skirt, tights, dress shoes and a big pink bow.  Immediately,  I knew what was going to happen to next.  My daughter melted into a little ball into her carseat.  Her face turned bright red as the tears started to roll down her little cheeks.  I looked at the clock and knew what I had to do.

I raced home, grabbed her favorite pink dress, tights, pink suede shoes and a hair band.  We changed in under six minutes and were back in the car.  I looked at her face in the rearview mirror as we pulled up the street on our second attempt at getting to school.  I suddenly realized we were following the teacher's directions to the letter when I noticed what she was wearing-a great big smile!
