See Amanda Run

I started running after my first daughter was born because I simply didn't have enough time to go to the gym.

Eventually, running became more to me than exercise, it became my sanity. It is my stress reliever, my time to think and a way decompress from my chaotic life.

I started running races for the social aspect of the sport. I initially ran with one friend and then a group, and the excitement about doing races together grew exponentially.

In all honesty, I've never been very competitive in sports with other people, but I learned that I was competitive with myself. I wanted to continually improve my personal best time.

This photo is from the inaugural Rock 'n' Roll Raleigh Marathon and Half-Marathon in April. It was one of the most difficult half-marathons I have ever completed for many reasons. But I won't let these challenges deter me. I will continue to run as long as my legs will carry me, because running has given me so much more is ever taken from me.

I have joked that I will run until there are so few women in my age group that I am destined to place in the top of the pack. I may be 80 years old, and fast walking, but that's my goal.
